Gettin' My Clingy On...

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. David, Ps. 63:8

For if you will be careful to do all this commandment that I command you to do, loving the LORD your God, walking in all his ways, and holding fast to him..." Moses, Deut. 11:22

The name of the world's strongest adhesive is DELO MONOPOX VE403728, a modified version of the high-temperature-resistant DELO MONOPOX HT2860. This epoxy resin forms a very dense network during heat curing. A special filler was used among other things to modify the resin properties in order to achieve the extreme strength required for the world record. This made it possible to lift a weight of 17.5 tons with only 3 grams of adhesive.

However, I like Gorilla glue!

David expressed his hunger and thirst for God's presence in Psalm 63, including verse 8 above, "my soul clings to you." Moses used the same verb 6 times in Deuteronomy, "holding fast to God." It is "dabaq" in Hebrew, meaning literally to cleave or stick to, adhere firmly, be glued to. Genesis 2:24 has this word, "a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

You and I are continually in desperate need of Jesus...however, our awareness of how needy we are waxes and wanes, fluctuates, does it not? I like the picture of being glued to Jesus, tightly fixed unto him. It's ok to be clingy, if we cling to him, as if our life depended on it -- cause it does. Remember his words, "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing" John 15:5.

To increase awareness of our need for dabaq, holding firmly to Jesus, I suggest:

  1. Set aside time each day to think, pray, and focus on God, his presence. Daily state your need of and dependence on Him. Schedule it, make an appointment.

  2. Present your heart and life to him, practicing Romans 12:2. Give Jesus yourself.

  3. Focus daily on one of God's primary characteristics: think about, thank Him, and rejoice that He is Gracious, Compassionate, Slow to Anger, Abounding in Love, Abounding in Faithfulness. (Exodus 34:6-7)
