Increasing Hunger & Thirst...

No matter how much we try to run away from this thirst for the answer to life, for the meaning of life, the intensity only gets stronger and stronger. We cannot escape these spiritual hungers. Ravi Zacharias

When we add desperation to our spiritual hunger, we become irresistible to God. Pastor Michael Meadows

The Sons of Korah wrote a song that begins, "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?" The warrior/poet David wrote another song,

"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

Like a drink of water when extremely thirsty, the presence of God satisfies--not flesh and body, but soul and spirit. King Solomon wrote that God placed in every human being a thirst for the eternal, a hard-wired hunger that frustrates, that causes seeking until satisfied through relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus told his disciples that we would be blessed if we hunger and thirst for righteousness, that satisfaction would result from drinking from the best well, his own self. He promised a woman living water as they talked next to an ancient well: "whoever drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Learning to satisfy spiritual thirst: I have no simple formula, but beginner's suggestions:

1. Invest time to be alone with God -- make appointments with Him

2. Calm your heart and soul, become centered and quiet

3. Take in his thoughts -- soak in Scripture, read like He speaks to you personally

4. Choose certain Scripture passages / verses to memorize and think about

5. Practice "heart transfer" -- tell what's on your heart, ask what's on His [and listen]

6. Worship by praising, thanking, singing to Him about his magnificent qualities

Expect God to speak to you, and be prepared to respond when He does. Thirst can be satisfied, hunger can be filled. Eat and drink from his well.
