No Matter Who Wins...
Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!...“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! God, Psalm 81
No secret that we Americans are polarized politically, deeply divided, often expressing anger, frustration and outrage to those with whom we differ. Now that election day has come and gone, please consider these truths.
God is speaking loudly and clearly to his people this year; covid has provided an environment wherein we can, if we focus, hear his crucial exhortations to His body. The discomfort and "squeezing" of 2020, the economic and health crises, the political divisions, while not caused by our Lord, have provided an opportunity for his voice to be heard---or ignored. The Psalmist recorded God's frustration with Israel, who would not listen, heed, submit, or walk in God's ways. The result, which I dearly want to avoid as an American and a citizen in God's kingdom, is to be left to our own devices, following our own counsels, living according to our stubborn hearts! May this never be!
Look at Jeremiah 6:16-17 Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Pay attention to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not pay attention.’ The rest of that chapter foretells coming disaster, due to lack of paying attention to God, the ancient paths, the watchmen, sound of trumpets. Yikes!
Here is what I truly believe God is saying to followers of Jesus Christ this year:
You have paid way too much attention to building your house/career/ministry. Change your mind to focus more on building God's house.
The false gods of American materialism, comfort-seeking, pursuing happiness must yield to seeking Jesus' kingdom first
Tune your ears diligently to hearing from me; this involves time and effort, turning off Netflix, looking at your phones less and my Word more.
The return of Jesus Christ is very close; get your life and family in order. Prioritize life around Him and His lifestyle.
No matter who wins elections, this is God's heart for us at this time. As Americans, we voted, and will deal with the winners and their policies. As Christ-followers, we must continue to pray, seek God's face, and intercede for a great revival to sweep across our land. May we not live under the leaders we deserve, but in God's mercy, live under His provision and protection. Are you paying attention? Crying for mercy, Perry Floyd
