PRAISING, THANKING, DELIGHTING

Praise the Lord!  I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.  Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.  Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.  Psalm 111:1-3

The unknown Psalmist listed reasons to praise the LORD:  God's works are great, majestic, full of splendor.  He described God's character:  His righteousness is never-ending.  His whole heart, his entire being was grateful to God, to be declared in the midst of God's gathered people.

God's works are "studied by all who delight in them."  The Hebrew word "studied" means to seek after, inquire or search.  Ways to practice this concept...

  1.  Read the Scriptures with an eye to search out what God has done, to ponder his works

and think through how He has helped, guided and protected His people through the

centuries.  What God has done points to what He will do.

  2. Pray for God's hand to supernaturally do marvelous things now. Pray as Jesus instructed,

"Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."  Ask, seek, knock

with a heart trusting Father God to move and work here and now.  The early church prayed

thusly: they lifted their voices together to God and said...stretch out your hand to heal,

and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus”

    Acts 4: 24, 30.

  3. Develop a deepening delight in God's works—meditate on passages like Isaiah 50:2, 59:1.

When you notice Him at work, praise and thank him relentlessly. Say and sing Jeremiah's

prayer as a model-- ‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by

Your great power and your outstretched arm!  Nothing is too difficult for you."

        Jeremiah 32:17.

Good things happen as we choose, no matter our circumstances, to give God glory, to thank him continually, and to ponder His mighty works.  I like what Joyce Meyer wrote, "When we complain about our current situation, we remain in it; when we praise God in the midst of difficulty, He raises us out of it."
