HE RESTORES MY SOUL

The best-known chapter in the Bible is Psalm 23, "The LORD is my Shepherd." Verse three is "He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake."  The biblical makeup of human beings is that we are tri-partite creatures, body, soul, and spirit.  Our soul is composed of our mind

(thinker), our emotions (feeler) and our will (chooser). God delights in restoring our souls.  The Hebrew word is "shoov", and can be translated to repair, restore, or refresh. When our thoughts, emotions, or choices get "out of whack," He loves to return them to "healthy whack." Souls are often wounded, diseased, malnourished, or damaged—the Good Shepherd Jesus cares for our inner being and puts "Humpty Dumpty" back together again.

Psalm 51:12 echoes this concept:  "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit."  Peter encouraged dispersed Christ-followers:  "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."

As sheep in His flock, we may rest at His feet often for the restoring of our souls. What a wonderful Shepherd!       Pastor Perry Floyd
